Although well beaten, the Scotwaste Monarchs earned praise for their efforts at Sheffield.

The match was delayed for 30 minutes as track staff repaired rain damage from earlier in the day, but all the riders of both teams expressed a willingness to go ahead. In the event the track was quite rideable.

Sheffield were in control throughout but there were quite a few good races. Both Matthew Wethers and Daniele Tessari showed a willingness to ride the heavy dirt on the outside, and Derek Sneddon was competitive throughout and made some good starts.

The final score was 31-61, but this didn't do justice to our efforts.
