The Scotwaste Monarchs completed their fixtures for the season with a 55-39 defeat at Workington, and 12-point returns for Kevin Wolbert and Andrew Tully.

The recommended way to ride Derwent Park these days is fast and wide, which takes courage and skill plus preferably a bit of practise.

The leading home riders are very tough to beat so our high scorers Wolbert and Tully deserve every credit. Kevin started badly but finished with outstanding victories in heats 13 and 15, heading Lawson, Roynon and Harrison.

Andrew was competitive throughout and had a very good win over Harrison in het 10.

The others plugged away and did what they could. Kalle Katajisto lacked a bit of speed but managed half a dozen points, while the battered Matthew scored three. The skipper maybe should not have been riding these last few days but has probably made his average even more attractive!

We did manage a 5-1 in heat two after Simon Nielsen stopped after getting away with a flier. Our guests Jan Graversen and Tim Webster headed Sarjeant.

The only sour note of the meeting was the inexplicable non-stoppage of that heat two plus heat fourteen, both absolutely blatant fliers for the Comets' Dane. When Jan Graversen shot away in similar fashion in heat four, he was pulled back.

With the fixtures completed we now look forward to next Saturday's dance and to planning for next season.
