The second match in our play-off section took place at Ipswich on Thursday night and Workington have produced a surprise result by taking victory in a last heat decider by 47 to 43.

That throws our section wide open and maybe even makes the Comets the favourites to top the group and qualify for the Final.

The Comets result on Thursday makes Friday’s meeting at Armadale all the more important. A win for the Comets, and after their Ipswich result they’ll be really up for it, will see them close in on the final and a win for the Scotwaste Monarchs will keep all three teams in contention. We shouldn’t dismiss the Comets on the basis of their previous heavy defeat at Armadale. The Comets took a sound beating at Ipswich earlier in the season!

The first match in the other play-off group took place at Redcar on Thursday evening and the Bears had a surprisingly easy 53 to 37 win over Newcastle.

The Scotwaste Monarchs will welcome as their guests at Armadale next Friday night (4th October) the players and officials of Edinburgh Capitals ice hockey team, reciprocating a visit the Scotwaste Monarchs made to Murrayfield earlier this year. There is a certain degree of overlap between the supporters of both teams whilst there is only a small overlap in matches with the Capitals playing most of their matches after our season has finished.

You will be able to book your tickets for the End of Season Dinner and Dance, in aid of the air fence, for the first time on Friday night at the Club Shop. Tickets are priced at £35 for the event that takes place at the Edinburgh Capital Hotel on Saturday 2nd November. If you want to stay the night at the hotel you should contact the hotel direct on 0131 535 9988 Bed and Breakfast is priced at £79 for a double/twin and £69 for a single.
