What a cracking evening it was at the Murrayfield Indoor Sports Club on Saturday for the Race Night - the final event of Derek Sneddon’s Testimonial.

It was good to see so many ‘weel-kent’ faces and to catch up with my friends from the track. From what I saw, everyone had a great time. It’s not so much about the Horse Racing I think (although we mustn’t forget why we were there) but just as important for folk to get together in the close season to reminisce, put everything to right in the speedway world and chat about next year! Our numbers were swollen by a few of the club locals who got into the spirit of things and had a bet or two! I quite like that club and would join if I lived closer. I’ve never tried the ten pin bowling. I don’t think I’ve got the grace and balance but, I tell you what, I think Ed the Monarch would be a natural at it with his regal swagger! I had a bit of luck backing a race winner or two and in the raffle I won a lovely bottle of wine! That’s my Christmas meal tipple sorted! So, it was out into the night air and head for the bus home but I couldn’t resist a bag of chips from the main road chippy (as you do after a few drinks)! And then I missed the last direct bus home! That’ll teach me!

Like most of you, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news from the Promoter’s AGM but I needn’t have held my breath! For Premier League aficionados like ourselves, all I can see is an extra couple of league matches (against which team or teams I can’t see). Oh, and of course we’ve lost Leicester to the Elite League. I wish them the best of luck. They’ve got a great set up down there and I hope they do well. So, that was it. Well, OH NO IT WASN’T! We were awarded Premier League track of the year as voted by the referees (nice peoples)! So, I’d like to join everyone else in offering my congratulations to all involved in the preparation of the best track! Well done guys.

I’ve discovered that oor Max has passed his driving test in Oz which means he can legally drive here in the UK. Well done lad! Not so much sleeping in the back of the van now eh?

By the way, there is still time to complete our supporter’s survey on the official website. Many have done so and we really do appreciate your feedback. We want you to have your say in how your club is run and this is one way to let us know. Thank you.

And, finally. Let’s countdown to the new season. It is only 16 WEEKS to go!

Take care!
