Erik Riss has made it to the World Under-21 Final by finishing joint third in the curtailed 12 heat event at Belle Vue, abandoned due to rain.

He won heats 3 and 12, with a point in heat 6. He had two tough heats coming up so possibly the abandonment helped him, but it’s good to know he is fit and has achieved a place in the final.

Max Clegg also rode but scored just a single point. Former Monarch Max Fricke won his qualifier in the Czech Republic.

Belle Vue Qualifiers: Dimitri Berge (France) 9, Jack Holder (Australia) 8, Mikkel Andersen (Denmark) 7 and Erik Riss (Germany) 7. Next highest Robert Lambert (UK) 6.

Pardubice Qualifiers: Maksym Drabik (Poland), Victor Kulakov (Russia), Patrick Hansen (Denmark) and Adam Ellis (UK). Next highest was the Swede Joel Andersson.

Pocking qualifiers: Max Fricke (Australia), Bartos Smetelka (Poland), Edward Krcmar (Czech Republic) and Josh Bates (Sheffield) with new Scunthorpe signing Andreas Lyager (Denmark) next in line.

The three rounds of the Final are at King’s Lynn (Saturday 18th June), Pardubice (Friday 16th September), and Gdansk (Sunday 2nd October).

Also tonight Sam Masters top scored with a superb 14 for Wolves in their 51-39 win at Leicester (finishing with three 5-1s) while Dan Bewley partnered Craig Cook to the runners-up spot in the Cumbrian Pairs at Workington.
