It is just over three weeks until the launch of the 2017 season at Armadale Stadium with the return of the Harrisons Scottish Open Championship and we are delighted to announce the first rider to the field.

In all honesty though, this is a man that needs no introduction. He is a former league winning Monarch and multiple Scottish Open champion - it is none other than the Roo Boy Rory Schlein!

For many it will be unfathomable to think it is now 13 years since Rory was a Monarch but he will of course go down in history as a key component of what was our first ever Premier League championship team in 2003.

At the time Rory was one of the hottest prospects in world speedway and he moved on for a then Premier League record transfer fee when he left Armadale at the end of the following season. A distinguished career has followed with Rory being a three time Elite League winner, two time Elite League Riders champion and as mentioned Rory is also a three time Scottish Open champion and who would bet against him adding a forth to that this year.

Rory will be a more regular visitor to Armadale this year being that he is now back in the second tier of British speedway with Ipswich and the ever popular Aussie will be looking to get back to where he left off all those years ago as one of the top men in the rebranded division.

Rory's rider sponsorship package is currently available. This includes admission for two to the Open, two match magazines, a DVD of the Championship and the specially-made racejacket that will be worn by Rory on the night, autographed by the man himself - all for just £120. Follow the link below to book this package now!

So one down, 15 to go. Check back tomorrow when we will announce the second rider who will be going after the famous Jack Young Memorial trophy.

Tickets are on sale now with sponsorship packages also available details of all can be found here for what is sure to be a hotly contested night of racing to raise the curtain on our 21st season at Armadale.

Update: Rory Schlein has now been sponsored for the 2017 Harrisons Scottish Open Championship - thanks to Scott Wilson. If you missed out then check back tomorrow at 10am when another rider will be announced!
