After another incredible fightback, the Scotwaste Monarchs came from 12 points behind to snatch a win in their final league match at Ashfield, scoring a last heat 5-1 to spark scenes of delirious celebration.

It was hard to believe, especially after the first 8 heats when we deservedly trailed 31-19. Our gating was poor, only Matthew (twice) had won a heat, and we had used the TR but taken only a 5-3.

We then took 6 of the next 7 race winners, five race advantages, and scorched from the gate to score that amazing last gasp 5-1.

The Monarchs' fans went wild, roaring and dancing, and the riders just smiled. They are some team.

For the Tigers this must have been desperately hard to take. But it is not a time for gloating, it is a time for enjoying the most remarkable team we have ever had.

So in the final reckoning we have finished 5 points clear of Somerset at the top of the 2008 Premier League.
