Another Birthday
Monarchs are one year older today because it was on this day March 26 in 1948 that the team raced its first match, at Bristol's Knowle Stadium. This remarkable photo, from the collection of the late John Jarvis, was taken before Monarchs had turned a wheel. Shortly afterwards Bill Baird scored our first point, on the wrong end of a 1-5. We lost the match 64-20 at a notoriously difficult circuit.
