  Edinburgh Monarchs

What an amazing side the Scotwaste Monarchs are. Make the task tougher, and they simply rise to the occasion. Evidence ? a 49-41 win at Sheffield and another four points to extend our lead in the Premier League.

Right from the first rise of the tapes the determination and the teamwork were in evidence. Matthew Wethers led all the way in the first race with Ryan Fisher backing up. William Lawson led all the way in the second race ? and Arlo Bugeja came from the back to join him for another 5-1!

It wasn't all as easy as that. For the Yorkshire team Ricky Ashworth was brilliant, Josh Auty a thrilling performer and Pepe Franc very quick.

But this Monarchs side really are a team, greater than the sum of their parts perhaps. Although the lead was narrowed to two points at heat 10, they held their belief. When Kevin Wolbert won heat 12 from Franc we were four up, but facing three very tough heats with Auty and Ashworth paired in 13 and 15.

But the top home men tangled in heat 13 and we took an advantage after Auty was excluded. Kalle, acting on a setup tip from Kevin, won heat 14 to clinch the match, and the mighty Fisher rode a magnificent race to hold off the two-pronged challenge from Auty and Ashworth to ensure the full four points in the final race.

The team were thrilled, the travelling fans had a ball, and the show moves on to Armadale and the visit of the Bandits with Monarchs holding a 10-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table. But it's not all over yet?
