Craig Cook was distraught on Wednesday morning when he had to inform Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund secretary, Paul Ackroyd, that he won’t be able to take his place in the Ben Fund Bonanza at Berwick on Saturday.

Said Craig, “I’ve been extensively upgrading my equipment during the winter for my assault on the Premier and Elite Leagues. I’ve had my bikes more or less together for just over a week but I’ve been awaiting the delivery of some vital parts to finish them off. The supplier has been promising me delivery every day for the past week but still nothing has arrived. I don’t want to be leaving it to Saturday morning and finding that I can’t race because I don’t have a bike and then leaving the organisers the impossible task of finding a replacement so I’ve withdrawn now so that I don’t let anyone down at the last minute.”

Joe Haines will take Craig’s place in the meeting.

Craig now hopes to have everything ready to allow him to do some testing at Leicester at the end of next week.

Theo Pijper will ensure that there is still Scotwaste Monarchs representation in the meeting and we’ll give a full preview of the meeting later in the week.
