Theo Pijper was in the thick of things at Berwick tonight with six points, in a Ben Fund Bonanza meeting won brilliantly by King's Lynn's Mads Korneliussen.

It might well be a night most remembered for the temperature, because it was bitterly cold. However the riders provided some decent action on a track which held up well after much rain over the previous

couple of days.

Mads Korneliussen was the outstanding rider in the qualifying races with four comfortable wins. Hans Andersen also went direct to the final with 10 points, while Danny King (10), Claus Vissing (9), Richie Worrall (9) and Chris Harris (8) made the semi.

Vissing held off an early challenge from King to win the semi, in which pre-meeting favourite Chris Harris dipped out to end a quiet evening for him.

Vissing also seemed set to win the final, leading all the way to the final turn. Meanwhile Korneliussen, who had chosen the unfavourable gate 1, passed Andersen, then reined in Vissing and pulled off a bold last bend inside pass for a superb win.

Last year's winner Ben Barker won his first two heats but a last place and a fall ended his hopes.

Theo Pijper was very steady, taking a point in the first heat from Cameron Woodward. He was unlucky when heat 7 was stopped with a warning issued to Lemon, after Theo had made the gate. In the rerun he finished second to Vissing but ahead of Richie Worrall and Lemon.

He took a third ahead of Wright in heat 13, then in what looked a fairly easy heat 19 he lay third initially but added a lucky point when Kozza Smith fell. Theo will be fairly happy with his riding.

Apart from the cold no-one could complain about the north's first meeting of the season.
