After an indifferent season for the Scotwaste Monarchs after he joined the team at the beginning of July last year Marcel Helfer knows that he must up his game considerably if he is to win fan approval on the Armadale terraces but he is confident of doing so.

Marcel managed to produce performances at both ends of the scale in his short time with the Scotwaste Monarchs producing fabulous heat wins, most away from home, and trundling last places, mostly at home and when he left the team early to return home to fulfil racing commitments there it seemed that he would not be keen to return. However, almost as soon as the season was over he was in touch with the Club desperate to continue his British career.

In his ever improving English Marcel said, “I ridden on most of the tracks now and that has to help me. I also rode in many wet meetings and I hadn’t experienced that before. In Germany they would call off meeting in far better conditions than I rode in last year at Armadale. That takes a bit of getting used to.”

All this suggests that we could well be looking out for Marcel being a marvel but if he simply maintains his bonus points inclusive average of 4.05 everyone at the Club will be satisfied with that.

Marcel’s biggest worry at the moment will probably be if the snow will clear enough in mainland Europe to allow him to have a trouble free run from Germany when he sets out for Edinburgh in the middle of next week.
