Friday evening’s practice session at Armadale has been called off and as a consequence, the Meet the Riders session in the bar afterwards has also been called off.

Alan Bridgett, Ronnie Anderson and their crew have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks in making the circuit ready for the new season but the snow earlier in the week that has covered the track throughout Tuesday, Wednesday and much of Thursday has proved to be the final straw.

The track was very wet before the snow fell and as it melted in made the surface even wetter. Although Thursday has mostly been a sunny day there has not been sufficient drying in the cold temperatures to allow the track to be made rideable. The forecast suggests that freezing overnight temperatures will bring frost to the ground, a speedway track’s greatest enemy at this time of the year. Throw in some weather forecasts prediction that it will snow all day and all weather forecasts prediction that the temperature at the scheduled start time, when you throw in the wind chill factor, will be -6 degrees it seemed appropriate to postpone the session.

The session is postponed for the present and attempts will be made to reschedule it. Exactly when this will happen or even if it will happen will depend on a much improved weather situation. An appropriate announcement will be made in due course.

All riders are disappointed at not getting on the track but Marcel Helfer was particularly keen to try out his new Armadale engine as set up by Peter Carr.
