  Edinburgh Monarchs

Pre-match expectations were that unbeaten Edinburgh would win this match in a canter, but in fact Glasgow put up a pretty good show.

They were never likely to win the match because their lively Danish reserves were missing, replaced by two NL riders, but both Kevin Wolbert and Theo Pijper displayed the form which made them Armadale favourites for years.

Rusty Harrison was also lively, but Mark Lemon after taking a good win from the back in heat 3 then fell a couple of times and only added a single point more.

After five heats there were only 2 points in it, though Monarchs gradually built up an advantage thereafter.

The home side scored solidly though so they should have with some inexperienced opposition. It was a good night for Aaron Fox who is improving with every ride, and reserve Justin Sedgmen seems to be enjoying his new home track. The Aussie thoroughly deserved his heat 15 outing.

Although he lost heat 1 to Wolbert, Craig Cook finished the night with two classic rides and was again the star of the show.

In heat 13, he nipped up the inside of Wolbert only for the German to go round him again. Cook hit the wide line on the pits corner, and squeezed between his opponent and the fence for an exceptional overtake.

Two heats later he was actually at the back on the opening lap as Theo Pijper led the way from Sedgmen. Cook rounded Wolbert on the opening lap, then moved through to second place. Entering the last lap he powered down the straight and inside Pijper, a really remarkable move.

A brilliant effort by Cook and also a thumbs up to a track which allowed him to ride with such confidence. He will have appreciated that.
