The Border Roofing Monarchs were soundly defeated by the Allied Vehicles Tigers at Ashfield on Sunday afternoon. The final score was Glasgow 51 Edinburgh 42

That win takes the Tigers to the top of the Border section of the League Cup and means that Friday's meeting at Armadale is a must win for the Border Roofing Monarchs if they are to remain in contention for a place in the semi-finals.

Stand out star for the Monarchs was Sam Masters whose only defeat came in heat 13 when Aaron Summers raced away into the distance. His final score was 16 and a bonus including a tactical win in heat 7. Craig Cook, after touching the tapes in heat 1, gave good backing with 10 + 1 and Kevin Wolbert chipped in with 8. Outwith those three only Rob Branford could be remotely happy with his performance especially with his heat 14 win.

For the rest, Sedgmen, Riss and Clegg is was a bad day and they failed to beat a single Tiger. Justin, in particular, looked badly off form as he can do when he has these shockers. Erik made it impossible for himself by not gating on equal terms with the others in the races.

The Tigers didn't really have a shining star but were solid with every member of their team, bar Palovaara, winning at least one race. The Swede did have a paid win though.

There was a big crowd in attendance, probably the biggest in Scotland for many years and the improvements continue within the stadium.

So there are still three teams in contention for the semi final place. Workington still have two home matches to race and a visit to Berwick and could match the total that Glasgow now sit on, 13. For the Border Roofing Monarchs victory in the must win match at Armadale on Friday would take them to 13 also. It's on a knife edge.
