Stellar Monarch Max James was amongst the qualifiers from tonight's British Under-21 Championships qualifier at Plymouth. He scored 8 points and will join the field for the final at Glasgow on Sunday 2nd June. Academy rider Sam McGurk scored 4 and didn't make the cut.

Rain at the venue made conditions difficult but the meeting went pretty smoothly and the twenty heats were completed in just over 90 minutes. Most of the changes of position came off the second bend on the opening lap and the trick was to get to the front and ride steadily.

Steady was certainly the method employed by Monarchs' reserve James who didn't gate especially well but scored in every ride. He finished in equal eighth position. Sam McGurk never really looked like scoring enough after an opening ride last place followed by four thirds.

Meeting winner and standout performer was Sam Hagon with a full 15, followed by Vinnie Foord 12, Freddy Hodder and Ben Trigger 11.
