Tonight's action from Armadale consisted of just two heats, one raced on a dry track, and one on a very wet track, before it was decided that conditions were not suitable for safe racing.

In between the two races there was a very heavy shower, and the best efforts of the track staff could not produce a suitable surface.

Referee Seth Perkin has been unlucky with rain on his Armadale visits. He said "I've done a couple of meetings at Armadale before and we've managed to get them on, but tonight there was further rain after the track repairs and we just couldn't continue."

Sam Masters was the comfortable winner of the opening heat, and partner Jacob Hook at one stage slipped past Ricky Wells before Newcastle's guest no. 1 regained third place.

That's when the rain really got going but after about half an hour the riders emerged for heat 2. Lee Complin raced off with heat 2 in the mud, and Jack Smith was initially well placed too but eventually stopped. Jacob Hook suffered the same fate and Diamonds took the lead with a 3-2, but with the rain back on again it was consultation time.

Not many marks to the weather forecasters tonight, tough on the guys who got mucky in heat 2 and also the track workers, but at least everyone lives to fight another day.

The What the Fork Monarchs look to complete a tremendous week with a further 3 Championship league points as the Newcastle Diamonds head to Armadale on Friday night.

The Diamonds have not had their troubles to seek this year and injuries and illness continue to beset the Northeast outfit with 3 of their 7 missing on Friday. Bradley Wilson-Dean, Matthew Wethers and Paul Starke the men to miss out.

Suitable replacements have been sourced though with Ricky Wells in For Wilson-Dean, Ashley Morris for Wethers and rider replacement in operation for Starke all of the Diamonds eligible for an extra ride.

With the Armadale experience of Wells and Morris being added to existing Diamonds Max Clegg, James Wright, Lee Complin and new addition Jak Smith the Diamonds will head for Armadale looking to play spoilers to the Monarchs playoff hopes.

Those hopes were given a big boost after a 10-point win at Birmingham this week that now means that the 2 home losses to Glasgow and Leicester have been nullified by the away points gained.

The home men are not without their own absences for this one also, Lasse Fredriksen and James Sarjeant continue their recovery from their respective shoulder injuries. Rider replacement operates for Lasse with Berwick's Kyle Bickley stepping in for Sarjeant.

Elsewhere Paco Castagna misses out also as he heads off to a Grand Prix qualifier this weekend, former Monarch Theo Pijper deputising.

Kye Thomson continues to ride through the pain barrier also after a big spill at Glasgow last Saturday but looked to be suffering no ill effects on track anyway after a strong showing at Birmingham.

Every match the rest of the way will be crucial if the Monarchs are to make the playoffs and as always, the best place to find out how they get on is at Armadale. Tickets are still available on the Monarchs website or pay at the gate is in operation also.

For those unable to attend then the match will be live streamed passes available to purchase through the EM:TV link on the club's website also.

Friday night is speedway night…. See you there!
