Young Scot Luke Ruddick steps up after four seasons in the National League to try out Championship racing with the Monarchs.
He is 20 years old, a landscaper, and has appeared in a couple of meetings at Armadale, both in 2017 and one actually guesting for the home team.
“It was a couple of years ago that I rode Armadale but I like coming there, whereas I think a lot of people find it quite tricky. I enjoy riding there.
“I’m quite confident and excited about it and I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s definitely a step in the right direction and it’s what I was hoping for.”
So how did a young Scot finish up so far south (previous clubs Mildenhall and Coventry)? “I started riding at Northside, training there, and then second halves at Berwick. I got a place at Mildenhall because I won rounds of the Under-15s and they saw me there. I’ve lived 20 minutes away from there for about the last six months and I enjoy travelling.
“I helped build the track at Duns and I’ve ridden there quite a bit. I’m certainly happy to be in an all-Scottish reserve pair! I’ve never actually spoken to William but me and him will be Scotland’s number 1 and 2! It doesn’t often happen that a reserve pairing are both Scots!”
Regarding machinery Luke says “I’ve changed my frames, I’ve got another engine and invested in the best equipment I can afford.”
