Sheffield is a tough place to visit and most teams would settle for a score of 40 plus a chance to take the aggregate bonus.

We looked shaky in the first three heats and might have lost three 5-1's had Benjo Compton not fallen. Rusty won heat 4 after a fall by Sheffield's other reserve Paul Cooper, and thereafter we traded punches successfully until we lost 5-1's in heats 13 and 15.

Theo and Rusty had two wins each with Theo looking especially commanding when in front. Derek once again scored in every ride - he beat Cooper 4 times - and the middle pairing recovered from that opening 1-5 to give as good as they got.

The team should be in good spirits for Newcastle's visit to Armadale.
