All summer we have been watching the Scotwaste Monarchs raising their performances to spectacular levels to win so many league matches, but this was not something they could manage in the second leg of the KO Cup Final.

It's a testament to how brilliant the 2010 Monarchs have been that their last match together on the very last day of the speedway season, weather permitting, is a KO Cup Final second leg tie at Newcastle (6.30) with the result on a knife edge.

The Scotwaste Monarchs needed a 5-1 from the final heat to win the Knockout Cup at Newcastle, but could only share the race and so lost to the Diamonds on an aggregate of 88-91.

Once again Friday was the wettest day of the week and the riders did very well to race 15 competitive heats while the rain was coming down without respite.

What better way to round off another speedway season at Armadale (7.30) than with the Monarchs facing Newcastle in the KO Cup Final with a great chance of adding that trophy to the 2010 Premier League Championship and Scottish Cup.

At a wild, wet and windy Armadale the Scotwaste Monarchs made a bad start to the KO Cup Final first leg but fought back from a 7-point deficit at heat 8 to grab a 5-point advantage by the end.
