After standing one step below top spot on the podium for the previous two years Sam Masters produced a sterling nights work to first catch and then overtake Justin Sedgmen to finally claim his first Australian senior title at the final round at Kurri Kurri.

The final round of the Australian Championship took place at Kurri Kurri in New South Wales on Saturday. Sam Masters has finished second in the Championship in each of the last two years and went into the final round three points behind Justin Sedgmen but had surged into the overall lead by his third ride and had the title wrapped up before contesting the A Final.

It was a past and present Monarchs 1-2-3 in the third round of the Australian titles at Undera. Taking the victory in fine style was a clearly delighted Justin Sedgmen by narrowly heading home Sam Masters with Max Fricke in third. Rounding out the top four was leading qualifier Troy Batchelor who seemd to get caught out at the start and couldn't make an impression on the other three.
