The Scotwaste Monarchs earned their first Premier Trophy points of the season, fighting back after facing a six-point deficit to beat Newcastle 47-42.

The Monarchs started the match very poorly, gating like snails, and a second successive home defeat looked on the cards with the score at 12-18 after five heats.

It could have been even worse because Pepe Franc had stopped while leading heat 1.

However a good win from the back for Henrik Moller in heat 8 seemed to waken everyone up, and from then on Monarchs had the better of things.

They conceded an unlucky 0-5 in heat 11 when both Andrew Tully and Matthew Wethers fell, but with Ronnie Correy in excellent form and Derek Sneddon contributing vital points, the match was won by heat 14.

In that one Daniele Tessari and Derek Sneddon outpaced the much improved Sean Stoddart and Carl Wilkinson.

Ronnie Correy missed his maximum when he was pipped by Christian Henry in a thrilling heat 15.
