The Scotwaste Monarchs gave themselves a chance of progress in the Knockout Cup when they finished 57-36 down against Sheffield at Owlerton in the first leg.

We fought hard to gain every point we could, and might have had one or two more but for some bad luck in the latter stages.

Against that though, Sheffield's James Birkinshaw had to withdraw after his first race due to an injury sustained at Berwick last Saturday.

In this situation (ie as it was not an injury sustained on the night) Sheffield were unable to replace Birkinshaw in two later heats.

We had points throughout our six man team, and made use of both the TR and TS rules. Matthew Wethers recovered from a fall to score in his next five heats, Henrik Moller was lively throughout and Daniele Tessari was very spectacular, especially in his heat 2 win.

We will need everyone on form at Armadale if we are to go through on aggregate.
