Many thought the visit of Somerset would be a tough match, but the Scotwaste Monarchs gave a much more impressive display than some of their recent Armadale outings and were always in control, eventually winning 58-35.

Monarchs are now on 57 points and to be absolutely certainly of the title, will have to add five more. That is assuming Newcastle don't drop another point and also win their matches by huge margins.

Tonight was important but the result was never really in doubt, especially as it became obvious that only Shane Parker and Sam Masters were really impressive for the Rebels.

Parker was his old majestic self and halted the unbeaten runs of both Ryan Fisher and Kevin Wolbert ? certainly no mean feat at Armadale these days. The Big Two got their revenge in heat 15 with a 5-1.

Everyone did their bit with everyone on paid 8 or better other than new boy Ashley Morris who impressed everyone by picking up two third places, both from the back, against Howarth and Holder. He won the Hermiston Monarch of the Match Trophy!

Monarchs' next outing is at King's Lynn on Wednesday.
