WE'RE IN THE NEWS TOP 40!

Amongst the many end-of-year lists, the Evening News have compiled a list of the 40 most influential people / groups in the capital last year - and we're in it!

The order isn't really important, but "Edinburgh Monarchs fans" take 17th place in a list which covers politics, sport, business, education - everything.

Top of the pile is Sir Chris Hoy for his gold medals, and our fans come 3 places below the Pandas, but ahead of many other well-known personalities.

The caption against our entry reads:

"Perhaps less high-profile than the Hearts support, but Monarchs fans rallied round to save their club from closure this year by pledging an incredible £30,000. It means the speedway team will live to ride again in the 2013 season. That's real supporters for you."

A sentiment with which we heartily agree.
