Sunday evening's scheduled Premier League clash between the Scotwaste Monarchs and Newcastle has been postponed due to a waterlogged track. No restaging date has yet been agreed.

The heavy rain that reached Edinburgh at five o'clock on Sunday morning started falling even earlier in Newcastle and with it still falling heavily at ten o'clock the Newcastle promotion had no option but to call the match off.

Said Newcastle co-promoter George English, "I've just tried to walk round the outside of the track and I was barely able to keep my footing it was so sloppy. Although there was a suggestion that the rain would go off by late morning we'd be battling an impossible situation. Although we believe we could have cleared the surface water from our track we are faced with the problem, on days as wet as this, that water continues to flow off the greyhound track, which sits higher than the speedway track, for some hours."

Alex Harkess added, "I'm not too disappointed that this one is off. Our form has been patchy recently and I think that a complete break for a week will help everyone."

Finding a restaging date may prove to be difficult as Claus Vissing has many racing Sundays coming up in Poland.
