Aussie Sam Masters was expected to join the Scotwaste Monarchs last year but it didn’t happen – now it will.

New rules put in place a year ago prevented him getting a visa, and Monarchs had to replace him, but this time there will be no slip-ups and he will join the team for the 2014 season.

Masters was Premier League Riders’ Champion in 2011, and although he was forced to miss the 2013 season he feels that at 22 he still has plenty of time to take up what was a highly promising career.

From Australia he said “I can’t wait! One year on!

“It might put you a year behind but it might put you a year ahead as well. I’ve ridden a bit over here, the ten round series.

“I might have to come a little bit earlier than normal this time to get prepared. I’ve only got one bike here in Australia. I had two last time I was in the UK but I sold them, so I’ll have to build some new ones.”

After a couple of poor Armadale meetings Sam scored 14+1 guesting for Scunthorpe on his last visit in 2012. “I’ve ordered the DVD of that so I can have a good look at what I did that night, it was a good one!

“I did have other tracks contact me but it was Edinburgh I wanted.”

He has a fair idea how the Monarchs’ plans stand and is particularly keen to team up with Craig Cook. “Craig’s had a brilliant time over there, he seems a good bloke. “

Sam has doubled up in the past and would like to find a berth in the Elite League for 2014.

“I want to, the new rule you’ve brought in over there has made it harder for anyone around my average. Hopefully I can get one.”

Team so far: Craig Cook, Steve Worrall, Sam Masters.
