Monarchs have made it three Aussies so far by snapping up 23 year old Cameron Heeps to join Justin Sedgmen and Josh Pickering as they build their team for the 2019 season.

Heeps has been associated mainly with Ipswich but with the Witches opting to move up to the Premiership for next season, Monarchs opened discussions quickly with a rider they have often thought would fit nicely into the Armadale squad.

It will be a lengthy weekly journey for him but he is undaunted by that. He said "I enjoy coming to Edinburgh it's a good track, and having the track as a home track I am hoping to make the long journeys worthwhile. I'm based in Ipswich, got a house last year with my girlfriend so it's going to be long journeys up, I think it's 8 hours.

"It's not the end of the world, being in Aussie we had sometimes to make trips up to 30 hours! So I can deal with 8 hours.

"I've had good meetings at Edinburgh but I've always come away thinking it's a good track. I need to step it up and have a good year, I need to be more consistent.

"I've spoken to Edinburgh once or twice before but things haven't worked out. Obviously they have this year and I'm looking forward to it.

"I know Josh and Justin but I've worked with Sedgy at Ipswich a year or two ago. I've met Josh and he seems a really nice lad."

Cameron believes he will have very competitive machinery for next season. "I'll be using some of last year's machinery but I've got a couple of sponsors who will help me make some changes. If everything works out it will be good for next year.

"I am talking to a couple of clubs about the Premiership and I hope to have a place. After Christmas I'll go home for a month and then I'll be back."

The team is all-Australian so far.
