The new Monarchs Speedway Academy will be launched with a ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday.

Following the excellent work of Ronnie Anderson and his team, the new mini-track on the centre green at Armadale Stadium has been completed and will be officially opened at 1.45pm this Saturday, ahead of Armadale Devils home fixture against Belle Vue Colts.

The opening of the mini-track will offer a platform to introduce new young riders to the sport of speedway by encouraging their first steps into racing.

In the first instance the Academy is now welcoming applications from any young rider who currently owns their own small-sized off-road dirt bike (50cc or suchlike) and appropriate personal safety equipment.

Any interested riders or their parents/guardians are encouraged to email academy@edinburghmonarchs.co.uk with their name, contact information and a brief description of the motorcycle that they intend to use.

The Academy will then reply with details of how to get involved in upcoming sessions.

Opening the mini-track is an exciting step along the pathway of developing the next generation of local speedway talent, said What The Fork Monarchs Co-Promoter John Campbell, "We have been developing our plans for the launch of the Monarchs Speedway Academy and the opening of the mini-track is a significant part of this.

"My thanks go to Ronnie Anderson and his team for the construction of the mini-track which is now ready to use.

"I encourage any local young rider who currently has a small off-road motorcycle to contact the Academy and to give speedway a go.

"It will be great to get the mini-track in use and the activity of the Academy will grow from here."

The Club will continue to develop the Academy in the coming weeks and months with the aim being to add suitable motorcycles to be made available to hire for anyone without a bike to come and have a go.
