William Lawson was the entertainer of the night riding in the Wolverhampton v Coventry maatch televised on Sky TV.

His recent good form suggested he might well be a force in this match, and so it proved with a sensational paid 12 point score. His first success was a fine win in heat 2, a Wolves' 5-1, but he really excelled in heat 10.

Pushed to the back on the first corner, he cleverly switched to an outside line to pass the young Dane Morten Risager, and then he brilliantly switched inside to pass ex-Monarch Rory Schlein and clinch a Wolves 5-1 with top man Peter Karlsson!

He had expert commentators Sam Ermolenko and Kelvin Tatum gushing with praise.

"That's tremendous for an 18-year old boy!" said Tatum. "I never rode that well here in 18 years!"

Two heats later he produced another amazing ride to re-pass Tactical Sub Scott Nicholls after the UK Champion had passed him early in the race.

Wolves' manager Peter Adams said "He's not just blasting everyone away, he's riding very well and has an old head on young shoulders."

There were two disappointments for William though: he blew his engine after his sixth race, and he wasn't interviewed by Sophie Blake.
