William Lawson crashed spectacularly in heat 14 at Ashfield when he was just a lap away from clinching the Spring Trophy.

The good news is that he appears to be fine. "He will have a few bruises in the morning", his dad said. Derek and William had produced a superb pincer movement out of the second bend to get ahead of Nieminen and Ksiezak, and for almost three laps they were unchallenged.

Derek felt his engine felt as though it could blow, and slowed slightly. William moved out slightly - and found the dirt pulling him outwards, into and along the fence, eventually crashing spectacularly.

The awarded 3-3, rather than a 1-5, opened the door to Glasgow's big two in the final heat and they made us pay. We lost 85-83 on aggregate.

Effectively the Trophy was won by TRs - Glasgow gained six points in the first leg while we were never far enough behind to use them.
