Although fielding a weakened team, the Scotwaste Monarchs made such a powerful start against Somerset that they led by 30 points after ten heats!

Some of the advantage was lost and the final score was 57-36, still a big win over a team expected to run Monarchs close.

Matthew Wethers was in sensational form, winning his first three and staying unbeaten after five rides, which included a brilliant win from the back over Katt in heat 12.

He was finally beaten by Zetterstrom in heat 15, and Henrik Moller also got to his final ride before dropping points, unfortunately a 1-8 loss to Kramer and Barker.

Kevin Little, who took over from the injured Burza as guest replacement for Theo Pijper, scored an excellent paid 11 from 4 in a great display.

The return leg is at Somerset next Wednesday.
