The Scotwaste Monarchs were desperately unlucky to lost 44-46 to Workington in their final league match.

They lost key man Matthew Wethers for the entire meeting after a heat 3 crash, but in spite of this they rode well enough to lead by 2 points going into the final heat.

However after receiving a knock on his wrist in heat 13 the unbeaten Theo Pijper was unable to ride in the final heat, during which William Lawson suffered an engine failure while in second place.

All that was enough to ensure a narrow defeat which was not what the team deserved. They had showed a lot of resolve to get themselves in front, with Theo Pijper again in superb home form. He took the track record down to 54.6 in the opening race and never looked like losing.

Daniele Tessari showed his best form yet, and once William Lawson got his gating sorted out, he looked good too.

Henrik Moller was more convincing than the previous week, and Sean Stoddart rode an excellent heat 14, beating Rusty Harrison.
