In another rain-affected match, the Scotwaste Monarchs gave just about their most solid performance yet to beat Birmingham 52-29 and go to the top of the Premier League.

The match was abandoned before heat 14 was completed, after Birmingham had called for a track inspection. This surprised a few people who felt they had seen matches completed on damper evenings, though the feeling amongst the riders was that the drizzle was making the circuit very slippery.

The home scorers ranged between paid 8 (Matthew) and paid 10 (Derek) as the whole team hit form on another tricky circuit. There was rain before and during the match, and eventually it took its toll.

Most pleasing was the form of Thomas Jonasson (paid 9 from 3, his heat 14 fall doesn't count as the match was abandoned) and Aaron Summers (paid 9 from 4, his best home match for a while).

Most of the Brummies struggled but Kyle Legault showed signs of regaining his form, and Jason Lyons went well other than one fall.

King's Lynn's rather surprising defeat at Scunthorpe means Monarchs top the table!
