With a tip of the cap to the Birmingham Brummies for a super performance, Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs can now say that they are the deserved winners of the 2008 Premier League.

Our young team, driven by Derek Sneddon as captain, have been magnificent all year and have earned praise all around the country.

It did seem that Somerset's great win at the Isle of Wight last night was likely to make us require a win at Glasgow, but that depended on the Rebels winning at Birmingham.

The brilliant Brummies, after a heart-stopping night, came out on top by 48-44 and eased us to the title.

Their promoter Graham Drury was in contact with Alex Harkess during the final heat at Perry Barr and after clinching the win he said "I am pleased for Edinburgh because they are one of the best promotions in Speedway.

"I did say to my team that with the Monarchs down on Sunday for the Premier Trophy, there just might be a couple of bottles of whisky brought down for them."

Rest assured that the Monarchs will be doing that. Thanks to the Brummies, but the main congratulations go to:

WILLIAM LAWSON, DEREK SNEDDON (CAPT.), THOMAS H JONASSON, ANDREW TULLY, RYAN FISHER, MATTHEW WETHERS, AARON SUMMERS.
