The Scotwaste Monarchs performed brilliantly to give the guest-boosted Workington a heavy defeat and take all three points.

Just before the match John Campbell made a strongly-worded statement regarding the absence of Adrian Rymel and the use of Tomasz Piszcz as a guest by the Comets.

He said "I believe that Adrian Rymel has let down the UK Speedway public. I don't think Workington have tried hard enough to get Rymel here, and I think Rymel should get a 28-day ban from the UK."

His comments were loudly applauded by the Monarchs' supporters.

It was soon obvious that the team were very much in the mood. Both Compton and Piszcz started with last places as Monarchs went ten points clear in just four heats, and only briefly thereafter did Workington get closer than that.

Kevin Wolbert and Matthew Wethers again proved an outstanding pair and took 5 points from Piszcz in heat 3. They then faced TR Kevin Doolan and narrowly missed out on 5 again, with Doolan just squeezing past the German.

Both Byron Bekker and Aaron Summers were greatly improved on last week with their equipment much better too, and their heat 8 5-1 put Monarchs well clear.

A further maximum from Wethers and Wolbert in heat 9 over Compton virtually ended the contest though there was still plenty of entertainment.

Tomasz Piszcz took Comets' second TR in heat 12 only to be passed by a magical move from the amazing Wolbert, squeezing through on the fourth bend of the second lap.

Once again Michal Rajkowski had a mixed meeting but brilliantly won heat 13 after both Comets' riders had gained fliers in a ragged start.

The match was a remarkably good one considering that about three days of heavy rain had only ceased at lunchtime.

Monarchs race Somerset at home on Saturday with a 6.30 start.
