The Scotwaste Monarchs brought their league points total to an unprecedented FOURTEEN in THREE days to pass Birmingham and go into second place in the Premier League.

This particular record is never likely to be repeated, an amazing surge over the latter part of the league programme. The Brummies could still regain second place by winning at Glasgow on Sunday.

Monarchs cannot be overtaken for third though and they have done so well after appearing to be well adrift a month ago with so many fixtures remaining. In the end it has turned out to be a stirring defence of the title won in 2008.

It is a triumph for their stamina as well as their ability and in tonight's double header, they hit 60 in both matches against Berwick and Redcar with everyone in the team scoring well.

The double fixture was completed around 9:55, excellent presentation once again.

The opposition from the Bandits and the Bears was pretty disappointing but it was a good warm-up for next Friday's Premier Trophy final first leg with champions King's Lynn.

John Campbell said "Next Friday the best team in the Premier League will definitely be racing here!" but he left it unclear whether he was referrring to the Stars or the resurgent Monarchs.

Before then of course Monarchs travel to Rye House for Saturday's KO Cup semi-final second leg, holding a 36-point lead.
