Following the events of heat 13 at Berwick on Saturday, Monarchs' captain Matthew Wethers has called for independant scrutiny of the sport's referees.

This heat featured the most ragged start imagineable, with Rymel and Fisher stranded. As a result, Ryan tried to regain lost ground and clipped Tully who crashed into the fence - and was excluded by referee Barbara Horley.

Matthew said "Heat 13 at Berwick was really stupid. I couldn't believe it. Rymel had pulled back from the tapes, the green light went on and the tapes went up, and Fish was watching Rymel and thinking ?What's he doing?'

"It obviously should have been all four back straight away, it was the wrong decision. I don't know what the referee was thinking. I think they should have some secret adjudications on referees to see that kind of thing."
