The Scotwaste Monarchs pulled off the shock result of the season when they won 48-41 at Birmingham to take all four points.

Yes, Brummies suffered bad luck in losing Jake Anderson and Chris Kerr, the American apparently with a broken leg which may keep him out for a long time. That is a tragedy for him.

However that should not cloud the fact that Monarchs rode very, very well with five outstanding displays, taking 9 race wins and scoring the crucial 5-1 heat wins in the vital heats 13 and 14 which did not feature either of the injured Brummies.

We kept relatively quiet their flying young Aussies Justin Sedgmen and Richard Sweetman and restricted Steve Johnston to an unimpressive 4 points.

Only our own loanee Aaron Summers and Jason Lyons really performed for the home team, and they could not contain the Monarchs' challenge.

After a very controversial exclusion in heat 1, Ryan Fisher won three heats in great style and was only pipped on the final bend in the last race. His second place was enough to ensure that we took all four match points.

Andrew Tully was sensational, paid 12 from his first four then challenging all the way in the final heat. Kevin Wolbert contributed 8+1 including a key win in heat 12, and Matthew Wethers deserved more than his 7+2. He was immense.

Kalle suffered another wrecked frame in his heat 2 crash, but still performed well on his second bike (plus one outing on Matthew's).

Max Dilger's main contribution was a paid win in heat 2, but for Jozsef Tabaka it was not a productive night (one gift point).

A sensational result though which takes us to equal top of the Premier League.
