The match between the Scotwaste Monarchs and Berwick was abandoned tonight after the third attempt to run heat 1 ended with the Berwick pair hitting the fence, and Adrian Rymel requiring to be taken to Hospital in the meeting ambulance.

The medical staff were sufficiently concerned about Adrian's potential injuries that they did not wish to transfer him to another ambulance.

He was driven direct to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, and the timescale for either the return of the ambulance or a replacement meant that the match had to be abandoned. Supporters seemed to understand why this decision was necessary.

Obviously the first concern is with the injured rider, a particularly popular competitor. We can't give any definite news on his progress so far, but a message received from the medical staff attending him leads us to say that there seem to be grounds for cautious optimism.

We send him all our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
