In spite of a great maximum by Monarchs' loanee Aaron Summers, Birmingham could not overcome Newcastle's first leg lead and so the Scotwaste Monarchs will race the Diamonds in next week's Knockout Cup Final.

Aaron scored 15 ? indeed both teams in the other semi had a Monarchs' loanee, though Newcastle's Derek Sneddon only managed a single point. Derek had done well in the first leg.

Birmingham had little luck in either the Playoff or KO Cup semi and so they end the season with just the Fours trophy to show for it. Key man Chris Kerr again suffered and his problems this season have cost Birmingham dear.

Dates have still to be confirmed but it seems certain Monarchs will race their home leg on Friday 22nd October. The second leg will depend on Newcastle's progress in the Playoffs and could be as late as 31st October.

Monarchs of course will be without Andrew Tully and will use rider replacement. Newcastle will presumably still be without Jason King though he is one place higher in the Diamonds' averages than Tully is.

It promises to be a superb final.
