WASHOUT AFTER 9 HEATS

After nine fairly uninspiring heats at Workington, the black clouds which had been all too obviously looming over the first bend dropped their load and it was quickly apparent that the match would have to be abandoned.

We might have got a bit further if referee Dowling had shown more awareness of the 2-minute buzzer in the early heats. We were trailing 36-20 by the time the end came, and not really showing any signs of improved form after the double defeat by Glasgow.

Kyle Howarth, surprisingly fit after Friday, won heat 2 and was our liveliest rider overall, scoring 6 from 3 rides.

Kevin Wolbert has gone well here before but like most of the others was being beaten out of the gate. He did produce one fine moment, passing Tomas Topinka on the last bend of heat 5 to grab second.

Our only heat advantage was a 5-3 in a three-man heat 7, with Matthew on a TR.

We now head for Leicester with Matthew returning home, hopefully to become a dad. We will return to Workington for this phase one fixture later in the season.
