Micky Dyer has qualified for the forthcoming Australian Championship finals by scoring eleven points in the qualifier at Brisbane on Friday.

This is an excellent effort after ten months away from speedway, having just been called in to the qualifier this week.

He won two heats, including the vital heat 20, to reach a total of 11 which put him level with Todd Kurtz and behind only Ipswich's new signing Rohan Tungate who did so well over here late last season.

He will now start the Aussie Final tomorrow night on the same circuit before moving on to Kurri-Kurri and Gillman.

Recently we spoke to Micky to get his thoughts on the forthcoming campaign.

He definitely prefers ?Micky' to the full name or any other abbreviation. Looking forward to his new job, he said ?I didn't really know a lot about Edinburgh up till now. I was over in UK in 2010 and lived in Swindon. I did OK over there riding for Dudley.

?I found Wolverhampton tricky to ride at first but once you get the knack of it, it's a pretty nice track to ride. I've heard Edinburgh is similar so hopefully I'll get round that too.

?Last year I was looking to ride for Plymouth. Mike Bowden promised me a spot but when it came down to crunch time, he said not any more. By then every other team was full. So I missed out there and that's why I wasn't over in 2011.

?John said he had lined somewhere good up for me to stay this year.?

Has he encountered any of the Edinburgh riders before? ?I sort of know Matt Wethers, and has Cookie signed yet? I know Cookie.?

Dyer is lining up some good equipment to give himself the best chance. ?I've just built a brand new bike, a Jawa chassis with all the good bits, carbie and clutch. I've just bought two new engines off Ash Holloway, Ash-Tec. He works with Jason Crump and Sayfutdinov. These two engines will be sent up to Edinburgh and I've got an engine here to use in Aussie.?

Micky is about to get back on track in Australia and hopes to be contesting the Australian Under-21 titles again ? he was an impressive fourth in Brisbane last year ahead of a host of riders who have done well in the UK.

?I had a good meeting that night. I'm not sure how the rules work, I turn 21 on the 3rd of January. If I can I will be in it.

?So far this winter I've done a few longtrack meetings but other than that not too much, I've had a bit of a break. But now I'm back in training, running every night and I'm going to start going to the gym and getting real fit.

?My local track back home would be Nepean, in Sydney.?

The rules concerning National League have not always been clear but he doesn't think he's eligible for that. ?I don't think I'm allowed to ride in the National League because you need British ancestry now, but if I could I would like to as it would be extra rides.

?I would like to attain my 5-point average, and hopefully move into the main body of the team, that would be ideal. I want to fly out from here at the end of February to give myself a couple of weeks to get organised and find out where everything is.

?I've got a lot of Edinburgh fans on Facebook wishing my luck so that's been good.?

There are bound to be matches against Glasgow coming up early which will pit him against Tigers' newcomers Mason Campton and Jayden O'Malley. ?I know Campo well, and Jayden a little bit, I didn't expect them to go over there so soon but maybe they'll prove me wrong. Local derbies will be good, I can't wait!?
