The Scotwaste Monarchs might have had a weakened team tonight, but they performed brilliantly to send Berwick packing by 59-33 with Andrew Tully and Theo Pijper unbeaten, and Craig Cook dropping just one point.

The top trio scored the bulk of the points but it was a night to remember too for Micky Dyer who totalled 10 with his best display so far. What a boost this will be for the Aussie after the disappointing afternoon at Glasgow last week.

The Scotwaste Monarchs rode without the injured Derek Sneddon, and only one of the four rider replacements for Derek picked up points. Guest Byron Bekker, replacing Charles Wright, scored just 1 though he tried very hard.

So it highlights what a fine job the others did, with Matthew Wethers also contributing 9 points and teaming up very well with Dyer a couple of times.

Berwick were permitted just one race winner, Seb Alden in heat 6 when he held off Cook. Monarchs took the lead in heat 2 thanks to Dyer and Bekker (an important race), and never looked back. They were only six points ahead after 7 races but recorded five 5-1 advantages in the remainder of the match.

Monarchs still have some difficult matches up ahead with their injury problems hanging over them, but this was a very praiseworthy show. The final League Cup qualifying match is at Berwick on Saturday night.
