POINT JUST MISSED

We led by five points after the first five races at Ipswich, but eventually lost ground and in spite of scoring a final heat 4-2 we went down 48-41 and narrowly missed gaining what would have been a very important point.

We certainly had no complaints over our guest riders. Scunthorpe's Thomas Jorgensen was the undoubted star of the show, winning four races after a stoppage in heat one, coming from the back brilliantly when required.

Mason Campton showed plenty of spirit also with six points, the same as Tully, Sneddon and Pijper with Wethers on 5. These guys all had their moments but lacked consistency.

At no. 7 Marcel Helfer was well off the pace.

We took 5-1s in heats 3 and 5 and with Andrew Tully winning heat 4 we really had the Witches rocking at that stage.

They pegged us back though and we were indebted to Jorgensen in particular for keeping us in the hunt with brilliant wins in heats 11, 13 and 15. Campton added another 3 points in heat 9, a good race in which Tully just lost out to Poole for second.

We needed an unlikely 5-1 from heat 15 for a point, but we very nearly got it as Andrew Tully was narrowly beaten by North for second behind Jorgensen.

The teams meet again at Armadale tomorrow and Monarchs will need to check on the fitness of proposed guest Micky Dyer who has crashed at Redcar tonight.
