Saturday night’s results have ensured that the Scotwaste Monarchs will finish in the top six of the Premier League and thus take part in the Playoffs which will this season decide the destination of the title.

Berwick have easily beaten Ipswich who were our main challengers for the sixth position, and interestingly enough former Witch Kevin Doolan (released a few weeks ago) has starred as a guest for the Bandits with a paid maximum.

John Campbell said “We did the hard work last night by taking six points and Ipswich could not repeat the win we recently gained at Berwick. We’ll see the Witches in the Cup next month.”

Glasgow did still have eight points available prior to tonight (and were 8 behind us) but a narrow defeat at Workington by 44-42 ensures that they can’t catch us.

So with three league matches remaining – Newcastle away Sunday, Leicester at Armadale on Friday and Rye House next Saturday – it remains to be seen whether we can climb any higher in the table.

The top two sides will select their opposition to be split in two groups of three. Final details will be decided at the Premier League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield next Sunday (23rd). The Playoffs are scheduled to begin the following weekend.

The downside for Monarchs at the moment is that they still don’t know when Craig Cook and Jozsef Tabaka might return from injury. Cook has had a practise and will not be returning to action next weekend as hoped, though both are targeting a return the week after. Let’s hope so.
