PLAYOFF OPENER OFF

The Scotwaste Monarchs’ first Premier Playoff match against Scunthorpe was rained off tonight and will be restaged next Friday.

The call off eventually came about 6:50 but in most people’s eyes it should have been earlier. The track was already awash when the killer downpour came, and the turnstiles had not been opened other than for season ticket holders.

Scunthorpe were probably keener than the home boys to give it a go, as they had done well in the mud previously. Eventually there was no option but to call it off.

Scunthorpe will be back next Friday with the cup semi-final against Ipswich on the 12th and Workington in the last Playoff match on the 19th.

Monarchs are at Scunthorpe on Sunday and also at Ipswich in the KO Cup semi final first leg next Thursday.

In the other Playoff group Somerset beat Newcastle 53-37 tonight.
