We've received the sad news that Arty Fisher, former junior rider but much more than that to many Monarchs, has passed away today. We believe Arty was 83.

Arty rode in the second halves of the 1950s at Old Meadowbank, and continued to have a spin during the practise sessions of the 1960s.

However he was more influential in those days as a mechanic and friend of many riders, both Monarchs and opposition.

No-one ever had a bad word to say about this friendly wee chap whose head was full of speedway knowledge.

In the Powderhall days he once gave an entertaining talk to supporters, tales of riders he had known through the years. There weren't many who didn't know Arty.

He was heavily involved behind the scenes at Old Meadowbank, and served as machine examiner in the early Powderhall years. Alex Hughson told us "He was a friend to every aspiring junior."

He will be sadly missed.
