Great Britain team manager Neil Middleditch has announced his 10-man squad for next month’s World Cup, and not surprisingly Craig Cook is in it.

This is an annual ritual which at least allows those on the fringe to know that they have been noted, though we would expect Craig to make the final team in his current form. It is certainly an ambition of his for the season.

From the official announcement:

‘Said Middleditch: “I’d say Tai Woffinden and Chris Harris are the automatic choices right now – so you could say it’s two from eight to make the meeting at King’s Lynn.

“I’m keeping a close eye on Woffy’s fitness, I know he’s riding but his collarbone injury is a worry.

“The likes of Craig Cook, Richie Worrall, Josh Auty and Kyle Howarth have never appeared in the World Cup but their recent form has warranted inclusion in the squad.

“I’ll be watching their form before I have to make a final decision in a couple of weeks.”

The first meeting at King’s Lynn pits GB against Denmark, Sweden and the USA with only the group winners going straight through to the final in Prague.

The second and third placed teams will head to the race-off, also in Prague, on July 18.

The squad is: Tai Woffinden (Wolverhampton), Chris Harris (Birmingham), Edward Kennett (Swindon / Berwick), Danny King (Birmingham), Craig Cook (Belle Vue / Edinburgh), Richie Worrall (King’s Lynn / Newcastle), Lewis Bridger (Lakeside), Josh Auty (Birmingham / Scunthorpe), Ben Barker (Birmingham / Ipswich), Kyle Howarth (Workington).
