Everyone’s mind was no doubt on the injury stricken Ricky Ashworth and no one was to know what would follow at Armadale in the very next race or at Sheffield on Thursday but the Scotwaste Monarchs fans and visiting supporters certainly dug deep into their pockets to support the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund collection the riders uplifted nine days ago at Armadale.

A huge sum of £1373.58 was amassed and this will go to the Fund to help with their excellent work.

Said Co-promoter John Campbell, “It’s astonishing that we should have such a great sum collected. It’s far in excess of any amount we have collected for this very worthy cause before and all the more meritorious when many at Armadale would also have contributed to the even bigger sum uplifted at Berwick just six days previously. I’d like to thank each and every supporter who gave so generously.”

The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund support all riders injured on British tracks generally with an initial payment and then a weekly sum, if required. Ricky Ashworth, Robert Branford and Mitchell Davey will all receive support from the Fund in forthcoming weeks.
